We're spinning off 2015's 901 Nowhere Street with BRAT Productions to transform La Peg into the seedy underbelly of a film noir crime caper. Join two trigger happy, gin-guzzling songstresses as they race to the top of the scrapheap. Scored by a live set of gritty, guitar-fueled rock n’ roll, this wild ride to nowhere features an all-female, all-Philly cast of dance-theater badasses.
This boozy dance theatre romp follows a host of seedy femme fatales, subverting the conventionally male-centric style of film noir with dimensional heroines. The caper of the evening is told from the perspective of the tough-talking, hard-boiled private eye, Michelle Flynn, performed by Merri Rashoyan. BRAT Artistic Director, Jess Conda, croons her own juicy brand of jazzy, gritty rock vocals as cabaret singer Maxine Malloy alongside Susanne Collins as her smoking gun partner in crime, Winona Cross. Tess Kunik and Nia Benjamin are a vicious pair as notorious mobsters, Kit Lopež and Georiga St. Regis.
Director Sam Tower infuses Jeremy Gable’s sharp-witted script with hallucinogenic dance sequences, as their sultry anti-heroines weave through the cabaret tables of La Peg. NOWHERE FAST is scored by a three piece cabaret rock band led by experimental guitarist Alec MacLaughlin, who created and performed the haunting score for ST+E’s 901 Nowhere Street. Sam Tower + Ensemble’s cinematic movement storytelling mashes up with BRAT’s hard rock brand, coining their own genre-bending performance mode of “rock noir cabaret."
